Depressing news though not unsurprising. Many of those who held their nose to vote for Trump did so for social and economic reasons. Trump may still be somewhat better on foreign policy than the Dems but the deep state national security agencies are still going to do the bidding of the powers behind the throne. Ukraine will likely end so they can concentrate on Iran and China. It’s a fools mission but hey, common sense left the ballpark years ago. Thx again Cheney’s.

Don't worry, at this pace Ukraine will not end at all. And China has infinite health points, so their only change would've been to pit Russia against it. Fat chance.

I don't know much about Waltz. Rubio, OTOH, is a known quantity. As far as I'm concerned, no one who is focused on one ethnicity's foreign policy goals has no business anywhere near the State Department, much less running it.

Rubio is Cuban-American with all of their traditional hatred for any non-Fascist regime in Latin America. Madeline Albright was a Czech with a grudge against Russia. Going even further back, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Carter's National Security Advisor, was Polish-American and helped orchestrate the whole Afghan Disaster to stick it to Russia.

Blinken is has dual Israeli-American citizenship.

Nobody like that will EVER put America First.

My suspicion is that Rubio is being taken out of the Senate. I’ll bet he’s not SoS for long.

I am dismayed but hardly surprised that Trump is naming neocons and such to vitally important positions. They are the Old Guard and have lots of experience, connections and expertise (not ALL of them!) in government. MAGA has almost none. Same for Trump. They are everywhere—in both parties—while our people are not. Expect these appointments to sail through Congressional approval while Tulsi, RFK Jr., and others hit a Uniparty wall.

It all will be better, and it all will take time. And vigilance.

NOTE TO THE AUTHOR: I followed your link to the “hundreds of thousands of dead” in Gaza; it in fact said ‘38,000 so far and ultimately as many as 189,000.’ Don’t do this kind of argumentation—it’s bad faith, sophism. You made your case well and didn’t need to exaggerate!

Ending the war in the Ukraine is smart. Prolonging it is stupid unless of course you are a shareholder in the defense industries. I suggest you get your head out of the MIC toilet and look towards a more realistic approach to US foreign policy. Russia's security interests are valid - and the US simply pushed the envelope too far for the Russians to ignore. Ending the proxy war and removing sanctions on Russia will help kick start the European economy - which benefits everyone.

Great article but you need to edit the sub-heading ‘is squarely’ section.

Amazing that these crooks can be bought off with 70 grand in donations.

As for the Waltz "wanting a new war with China", those two examples aren't ample evidence. Is he on record actually advocating for a military encounter?

Just when Trump looks like sellout he turns around and nominates Tulsi Gabbard as director of national intelligence. A glimmer of hope. Can she hold her own against the neocons Trump is installing?

Matt Gaetz as Attorney General. If this hold up, it’s one of the greatest F’ you’s in political history. Merrick Garland and a bunch of his lawfare cronies better head to the paper shredders. Fast.

Matt Gaetz has no chance of getting his appointment past the incoming Senate—if it even gets to a vote. I imagine Tump already knows this and the nomination itself will be the only FU there is…

Perhaps. Because Trump likely has a plan in mind to grease it for the next guy who will be a smarter, more substantial F’U. Either way there’s a bull market on shredders and burn baskets in the Department of Justice.

It keeps getting worse. Trump’s foreign policy picks. Pathetic comes to mind. And to make matters worse the GOP puts a neocon supporter, John Thule in as Senate leader. All his choices emanate from the Dick Cheney tree of neocons. Tell us again about that “revenge tour” Trump was going on. Pathetic.
