I read, "Russia’s eventual illegal invasion of Ukraine" and I wondered why you write 'illegal'. In my understanding of events, the Russians knew very well who had captured the government in Kyiv and were quite upset with the anti-Russian laws passed by the UkroNazis. When Kyiv invaded the Donbas, Russia as a civilizational state was directly threatened. Then in 2022, the imminent invasion of the Donbas, as well as the intransigence of the West, combined to sanction an 'intervention' at the request of the newly independent states of Donetsk and Luhansk. Putin cited Article 51 of the UN Charter as legal basis of Russia's intervention, but really, who cares about liberal values when a potential genocide is at stake?
