Remember when Senator Chris Murphy and John McCain went out there to help overthrow the president in 2014?

Root Causes's avatar

I don't remember that.

Oh, that. Yeah watch the first 30 mins of “Ukraine on Fire”.

Your hero Stalin signed a treaty with Hitler.

From all I know, Dissident is at the left end of the Democrat Party and no further than that. Since I left the duopoly at the start of this century and left the Green Party in 2024, I kind of observe things like that. This isn't as stupid as Pickles' hasbara, but it still is fact-free, AFAIK, to claim that Stalin's his hero.

ANDREW LAZARUS's avatar

Dissident is a Putin fan. I define the left of the Democrats as Sanders and AOC.

Root Causes's avatar

Tankie bitches ranting about "Nazis," in support of Putin's regime - Always hilarious.

AOC regularly parrots CIA-funded think tank talking points and accompanied Marco Rubio to the Munich Security Conference where she lambasted Venezuela and Cuba as dictatorial regimes; she voted to increase iron dome funding and also voted to break the rail workers strike in 2022. But sure, she's "left" lol.

Oh, to add on, is Norm Finkelstein a fan of Putin?

Also, one can consider this war, contra Norm, neither justified nor unjustified. I do. That’s because I actually read philosophy; Walter Kaufmann wrote a whole book on matters related to that.

I wasn't aware of Finkelstein's take on Ukraine until now. Just from one superficial reading I see one serious problem: his derivation of Russian moral authority from their 27 million WW2 deaths. First, many of these deaths were of Ukrainians. Of the relevant Soviet constituents, as a percentage of pre-war population, Belarus suffered the most, then Ukraine, and then Russia. Second, while Russians are quick to point out the history of Ukrainian and Nazi collaboration AFTER Operation Barbarossa, they tend to be much quieter about the Soviet division of Poland with Hitler according to the Hitler-Stalin Treaty.

Why are you even talking about Stalin you clown lol Stalin died 70 years ago, Zelensky is honouring nazis now

Root Causes's avatar

This guy died over 60 years ago. Russia's violent, nationalist militias are embraced by Putin's government - with official representation in the Russian Armed Forces; Rusich Group, Russian Imperial Movement, Slavic Union, Great Russia, Russian National Union, and others.

Contrite Azovs are school kids compared with Russia's active, white nationalist militias.

Rusich me harder ..

SocraticGadfly's avatar

Well, I'm a leftist, not a tankie. And, even if I were a Putin fan, that doesn't make me a Stalin fan. You've got a logical disconnect right there, whether I agree with Finkelstein's take or not.

That said? Pope Francis said that NATO was "badgering" Russia.

Personally, I have no problem calling out tankies.

I also have no problem calling out Uki-tankies.

And, yes, they (you?) are a thing.

Capiche?

SocraticGadfly's avatar

I already said I’m not a Democrat, so I don’t care what the left of Democrats are, and I’ve never heard him talk about third parties in the US. Now, if you were talking about Simplicius? DIfferent story.

drednorzt's avatar

What part of reporting on Nazis in Ukrainian leadership makes somebody a Stalinist? Can you elaborate in your reasoning please?

Unruly🎈Jane 🕊️🇵🇸🔥🧊🔻's avatar

If anybody doubts this, just watch the first 30 minutes of “Ukraine on Fire.” Alarming.

SocraticGadfly's avatar

Sorry, librulz, Uki-tankies and NAFO "fellas" I mean NAFO Nazis who claim that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky can't really support Nazis because he's Jewish, but he just gave a state funeral to an actual Nazi.

None of what is written here seems to tally with the material provided here,

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andriy_Melnyk_(officer)

Could you share your sources?

SocraticGadfly's avatar

He did, right in the story. The extended quote of Havryshko. Here's more about her: https://socraticgadfly.blogspot.com/2025/06/the-haters-of-ivan-katchanovski-and.html

And, your claim that Wikipedia refutes him? A search shows the word "Nazi" on that page 36 times. Rather, it confirms.

But, Pickles, since you're a Zionist hasbara smear machine, you won't accept this as evidence.

Pickles's avatar

The word nazi is mentioned but it isn't at all like it's portrayed in the article.

From the wiki and it's sources it does seem that his reasoning for allowing with Germany was to force an independent Ukraine by countering soviet Russia.

This article makes it seem like he was worse than Hitler when it came to Jewish people.

SocraticGadfly's avatar

»This article makes it seem like he was worse than Hitler when it came to Jewish people«

It does no such thing.

As for what it does say, I seriously suggest you learn the actual history of the Waffen-SS Galicia Division.

As for my first comment? I’ve read Ilan Pappe and Shlomo Sand, which is far more than the typical American Zionist, even “moderate” ones.

…"No democrat, let alone a socialist, will venture to deny the complete legitimacy of the Ukraine’s demands. And no democrat can deny the Ukraine’s right to freely secede from Russia. Only unqualified recognition of this right makes it possible to advocate a free union of the Ukrainians and the Great Russians, a voluntary association of the two peoples in one state. Only unqualified recognition of this right can actually break completely and irrevocably with the accursed tsarist past, when everything was done to bring about a mutual estrangement of the two peoples so close to each other in language, territory, character and history. 𝘼𝙘𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙨𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙢 𝙢𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙂𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙍𝙪𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙨 𝙚𝙭𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙐𝙠𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙖 𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙗𝙖𝙙𝙚 𝙐𝙠𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙖𝙣 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙠 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙚.

Russia’s revolutionary democrats, if they want to be truly revolutionary and truly democratic, must break with that past, must regain for themselves, for the workers and peasants of Russia, the brotherly trust of the Ukrainian workers and peasants. This cannot be done without full recognition of the Ukraine’s rights, including the right to free secession.

We do not favour the existence of small states. We stand for the closest union of the workers of the world against “their own” capitalists and those of all other countries. But for this union to be voluntary, the Russian worker, who does not for a moment trust The Russian or the Ukrainian bourgeoisie in anything, now stands for the right of the Ukrainians to secede, without imposing his friendship upon them, but striving to win their friendship by treating them as an equal, as an ally and brother in the struggle for socialism.

* * *

This is precisely why Putin hates Lenin and loves Stalin.

______________

It is hatred of Russian imperialism and colonialism that generates the unfortunate lionizing of even Nazi stooges and criminals as “patriots” by some people n Ukraine.

Unfortunately 300 years of brutal Russian oppression can lead to very reactionary attitudes.

But the primary responsibility for that today rests with the Putin regime and its invasions of Ukraine.

Despite these very unfortunate tendencies it is inaccurate to call Ukraine or its capitalist government “Nazi.”

Independent of the character of the Ukrainian government we must step back and examine the primary character of the war.

Russia, the historic oppressor, is an imperialist country that has engaged in a colonialist invasion of a semicolonial nation and people.

The only correct position is to oppose that invasion by the criminal Putin regime, while supporting unity of the working people of Ukraine and Russia against both sets of capitalist ruling classes.

We must reject poisonous campaigns against the people of Russia who are no more responsible for Putin’s war, than the American people are responsible for Trump's criminal war against Iran. We should support fraternal relations between all peoples.

A victory by Ukraine would in fact be a great gift to the working class and oppressed of Russia, and would strengthen their struggles against the Russian capitalists and government.

Ukraine has the right to acquire weapons from any sources for its fight against Russian imperialism. At the same time we must demand that NATO be abolished.
