The U.S. empire looks for regime change in Cuba
The media and the United States government are pushing for regime change in Cuba.
Yet again the U.S. empire is pushing for regime change. The media and the U.S. government are non-stop pushings for regime change in Cuba with some of the dumbest propaganda and blatant hypocrisy yet. Of course, dupes will say “I know they lied about Iraq, Afganistan, Libya, Syria, Venezuela, and Bolivia and I know they spend three years pushing a massive deception with Russiagate, but I’m sure they’re telling the truth this time”. Within this article I will be debunking mainstream media propaganda, examining the effects of the U.S. embargo on Cuba, critiquing the Biden administration’s insanely hawkish response, and exposing the unbelievable levels of hypocrisy on the part of the U.S. empire and the Biden administration.
U.S media propaganda
As with all regime change efforts, we are first berated by a barrage of regime change propaganda from corporate media. Of course, the right-wing media has gone full mask off in their intention with far-right networks such as Fox news who hosted the Miami mayor advocating illegally bombing Cuba. Most people who are not insane will be able to see this as insane propaganda but there is a lot of propaganda coming from more supposedly authoritative networks that some people will have a hard time seeing through. The U.S. media has focused relentlessly on relatively small groups of anti-government protestors in Cuba while completely ignoring much larger pro-government counter-protests documented here by journalist Ben Norton. Ironically, the mainstream media accidentally showed pro-government protesters while trying to play up the anti-government ones. There was an image of protestors in Cuba that was used by many mainstream media outlets in articles about anti-government protestors. Journalist Alan Mcleod showed here that they were actually pro-government protestors. The image showed protestors holding Castro’s political party flag proving that they were actually pro-government protesters. There was also an image used by CNN in an article about Cubans uprising that was actually a photo of a rally in Maimi. This is not to say the protestors in Cuba do not have legitimate grievances but shows how the U.S. media tries to make it seem like the Cuban government has more opposition amongst the population than it actually does to manufacture consent for regime change.
Effect of embargo
Many of the recent protests in Cuba were about food and medicine shortages, which are mostly caused by the U.S. blockade on Cuba and the Trump administration’s sanctions. UN human rights experts found that the U.S. embargo had caused an increased travel time and imposed a financial burden on medicine and medical equipment necessary for the Covid-19 pandemic making it harder for Cuban’s access. Aside from the blockade the Trump administration enacted many policies that were designed to crush the Cuban economy and impose suffering on the Cuban people. Jacobin magazine reported that “Trump signed more than two hundred directives aimed at making Cuba’s economy scream. He sharply restricted remittances (to one family member at a maximum of $1,000 per quarter) before effectively banning them outright. He also barred US travelers from carrying out any transactions with entities tied to the military and intelligence and security services, in practice an attack on both Cuba’s ability to draw foreign investment and its crucial tourism industry, given the heavy involvement of the military’s business conglomerate in, by one estimate, 60 percent of the economy.” Most of the international community believes the United States should end the sadistic blockade imposed on Cuba. A recent vote on a resolution to end the blockade on Cuba at the UN found 184 countries voting in favor of it with only Israel and the United States voting against it. It is objectively true that ending the blockade and Trump-era sanctions on Cuba would improve the lives of everyday Cubans but the Biden administration would rather make Cuba suffer in an attempt for regime change.
The Biden administration doubles down on the embargo with unbelievable levels of hypocrisy.
Any normal human being as president would end the embargo and sanctions in Cuba to help improve the living conditions of the Cuban people. Unfortunately, Joe Biden is a sadistic imperialist who is using small protests over issues he could easily help, to foster regime change in Cuba. Biden released a statement saying “I condemn the mass detentions and sham trials that are the Cuban regime's efforts to threaten the Cuban people into silence. My Administration stands with the Cuban people, and is imposing new sanctions targeting those in the Cuban regime responsible for this crackdown.” Biden somehow managed to be farther right on Cuba than Donald Trump and his psychopathic secretary of state Mike Pompeo. But Biden went even farther Al Jazeera reported that Biden said the sanctions were “just the beginning” signaling he may move towards a policy of regime change in Cuba. Biden increased sanctions in Cuba to keep the Cuban people as miserable as possible in the hope that they will overthrow and rebel against the government. This is similar to U.S sanctions on Venezuela which are responsible for the death of 40,000 people, U.S sanctions on Iran that negatively impact Iranian's access to essential medicine, and U.S sanctions on Syria that specifically target reconstruction. The intention of Sanctions is always to hurt the population of the targeted country as much as possible in the hope that they will rebel against the government. Aside from the fact that these sanctions are sadistic and show that Biden has no care for the rights of the Cuban people and wants to make them suffer it also exposes the extreme hypocrisy of the U.S. empire and the Biden administration. Biden is sanctions Cuba over police repression. This is blatantly hypocritical as there is one instance of a protester being killed in a clash with police. While this is terrible it is not comparable to police repression in the U.S. allied Colombia where police killed 68 protesters. Biden stayed silent on this and remained allies with the Colombian government. The U.S. allied government in Haiti was also responsible for killing 44 protesters and the Biden administration stayed silent. Aside from that, the U.S. does not much have room to sanction other countries for mass detention when the U.S. has the highest prison population per capita in the world. Finally, by far the worst human rights abuses in Cuba are done in U.S. occupied territory by the United States at Guantanamo Bay where the Red Cross has reported “acts of torture, including sleep deprivation, beatings and locking in confined and cold cells”.
As with all regime change attempts, this exposes the failure of the U.S. media, the sadism of sanctions, and the blatant hypocrisy of the U.S. empire. The U.S. government needs to end the embargo and sanctions on Cuba and stay out of its internal affairs.
