Those with a platform should join in. After all his torture he still speaks out. !! We are all grateful ✌🏼

Altasfolly's avatar

When was he tortured? I honestly cannot find record of this.

Julie Akins's avatar

He was stuck in an embassy, one room, no light of day. Then he was in solitary in the UK for years. He was guilty of journalism, nothing more, as court records prove.

Mic Norton's avatar

Cool cat but are you serious about this? Technically all incarceration is torture but we let it go by because criminals do bad s***,, so what was Julian's crime again? OH YEAH he disseminated information about the crimes of the United States government and military,, in any case the guy had to basically hide in plain sight for years until he was actually bodily hauled off to a maximum security prison… Julian never said he was waterboarded or subjected to electric shocks or whippings or any of that stuff,, no matter what you think of his politics the man is not a liar…

GrapefruitZionist's avatar

Because it never happened. But he absolutely positively is a RAPIST

Mic Norton's avatar

What you're saying is libelous and also wrong,, MI6 and the CIA had to scour the entire planet to find one person who had any sort of a complaint against Julian and even though the woman in question said she didn't want to file any charges and that she didn't want Julian prosecuted,, the CIA crafted this narrative because they knew practically every left pundit would abandon Julian and start calling him a Grapist… even Amy Goodman did that at first, one of Julian's biggest left supporters until it became clear that the allegation was a Black op to discredit Julian…

HAJL's avatar

Hello Julie. Look up Esteban’s profile and you will understand.

Mic Norton's avatar

Guess this guy is the first person I had to block on substack lol 👍

GrapefruitZionist's avatar

Dickhead, ASSANGE IS A FUCKING RAPIST. ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN. ZERO DOUBT

Eleanor's avatar

Wow... it must be amazing to be "absolutely certain" about anything, especially about something without a shred of evidence; Assange was not charged with this offence, despite much mud racking.

Stravaign's avatar

You'r a fucking moronic shill.

Femi's avatar

With the same amount of evidence and logical reasoning I can with absolute certainty also declare that you are a fucking rapist, then.

Stravaign's avatar

You'r a fucking moronic shill.

Nigel de Sylva's avatar

I think that you would be wise to desist with your allegations of rape. If you were aware of the circumstances you could never continue with your lies. If Julian was aware of what you are saying he could take legal action which would certainly bankrupt you.

Mic Norton's avatar

Agree but we don't have the resources and notoriety that Julian does, because it's not just him he's got lawyers sympathetic to these issues and other people that know the ropes to this stuff which,, I have no idea… I didn't know the requirements for this Peace prize and if those are the requirements then Machado should be disqualified,, but it depends on how far the swedish government is willing to listen to this because remember Sweden just joined NATO so it's obvious Sweden has gone from a more or less neutral international player to siding with the unipolar fascistic order of Wall Street and the city of London….

GrapefruitZionist's avatar

Liar. And he's a FUCKING RAPIST

Stravaign's avatar

You'r a fucking moronic shill.

A shill for whom? You support a RAPIST.

He is a person of integrity and his position is entirely justified. The foundation undermined its credibility by awarding the prize to such an unsuitable individual.

𝓙𝓪𝓼𝓶𝓲𝓷𝓮 𝓦𝓸𝓵𝓯𝓮 (𝓜)'s avatar

Not the first time. Both Henry Kissinger and Obama received it🤮

TS's avatar

To be fair, President Obama received it before he committed his war crimes (the kill list; assassinating people in Pakistan with Hellfire missiles in extrajudicial killings, and destroying Libya, and murdering its leader).

Velvet Dunn's avatar

Says a fucking Russian bot. Block this asshole people

Dquandle's avatar

He got it in eager anticipation of the murders he had no doubt promised to commit, sort of like a down payment...

TS's avatar

Hadn't thought of that. Unfortunately, that is plausible.

Terrance Reynolds's avatar

on obama's peace prize:

1.there were credible reports that Obama himself felt undeserving

2. B.O. authorized extrajudicial Assassination of the demonized Ossama bin Laden rather than attempt capture & public trial - a premeditated decision to deny bin laden an opportunity to rationalize the infamous 9/11 New York City suicide by passenger airliner highjacking, implimented by Saudi Arabian Wasanabi Muslims, not declared or court adjudicated Al Queda cult affiliates...

I so deeply admire this incredible human, Julian Assange, and am exceedingly grateful for his action here, and for all he has done for the world. I don’t know if Julian Assange is THE person who “has conferred the greatest benefit to mankind” this year —I’m just not that knowledgeable— but I know without a doubt that he is 1000 times more deserving of this prize than the shameless Machado.

Thank you, Julian Assange, for launching this criminal complaint against Nobel Foundation, which has clearly lost its moral compass.

𝓙𝓪𝓼𝓶𝓲𝓷𝓮 𝓦𝓸𝓵𝓯𝓮 (𝓜)'s avatar

It never had one. Henry Kissinger and Obama both mass murderers also got it.

Aamir Razak's avatar

well said Jasmine, and this year's winner proves again that any credibility the award had was just a fiction

longletters's avatar

It did have one, which is exceedingly clear from reading the will. A prize is given every year and there are a hundred and thirty years between his will and today.

Depressive hyperbole that creates a false "bitter irony" to internet-gripe about is snappy and fun and part of the repartee of the churn; it has been for its own quarter century. It's also a false consciousness, and deadly to political effectiveness.

It's the i can haz cheezburger wit, applied to real situations.

As such, it contributes to depressive giving up and retreat. And it's all for a bitter statement that's not even true! It's a gross exaggeration! If this were not the case, Assange would have nothing to sue about.

Let's be like Assange, not like bitter sysadmins from 2004 comment threads. 💕✊

Never had one! It was created by a Zionist for benefits of Zionists, all manufactured, just like the bs United Rothschild Nothing aka UN, World Bank etc., etc., etc.

LOL! Julian's still got it in spite of everything he went through. I do hope he succeeds. It would be hilarious if they had to revoke a Nobel Peace Prize because they violated Swedish law by bestowing it on a warmonger.

Dquandle's avatar

that never stopped them before...

Han's avatar

The way that I understand the terms of the Nobelprize is that it will not be revoked. Anyway, even scientific unfounded research that got a Nobelprize will not be revoked.

"My naiveté was believing in the law. When push comes to shove, laws are just pieces of paper, and they can be reinterpreted for political expedience. They are the rules made by the ruling class, and if those rules don't suit what it wants to do, it reinterprets them".

"In the case of the U.S., we angered one of the constituent powers of the U.S. - the Intelligence Sector, the Security State. It was powerful enough to push for reinterpretation of the U.S. Constitution, 1st Amendment".

As a venezuelan in Venezuela, I thank him a thousand times.

Aamir Razak's avatar

Thank you Mr. Assange, for your courage and integrity in initiating this complaint. Once more, you stand on the side of justice, accountability and human dignity. A person who calls for the invasion of her "country" and encourages a regime change and supports the genocidal occupiers is not a worthy recipient of any peace prize, certainly not the Nobel Peace prize

Dodo B Bird's avatar

"....the abolition or reduction of standing armies ...." one of the goals of the Nobel Peace Prize......

Glad to see Julian Assange try to get the Swedish government to uphold the written goals of the Peace Prize and stop the insane illegal war of aggression the USA is waging to take over Venezuela oil.

I'm so depressed watching this....going homeless myself in Iowa .....the local news .... the international news ...my own situation....

When I refused to register with selective service in 1980.....and spent years in the courts......and less than a year in federal prison camp.....I had no idea how hard that would affect my life economically....

And I never imagined that 45 years later it would be worse than ever...

I fervently hope that things improve for you!

Nancy's avatar

So the “peace” prize was awarded to an individual for treason against her own country, inviting two of the world’s most notorious tyrants, Trump and Netanyahu, to invade Venezuela for her own benefit. And celebrating “extrajudicial killings” of her own people. Both Norway, which selected Machado as recipient of the prize, and Sweden, which released the funds, should be ostracized for this. Thank you, Mr. Assange. May Justice prevail and the award be withdrawn.

The committee members perfectly know the conditions written down by Nobel. The Norwegian parliament directly or indirectly has a say in who receives the peace prize. Politics in the Nobel Peace prize is not unprecedented. It is in some cases not about peace or coinciding with Nobel's will.

We should stop paying attention to these sort of prizes. The committees have made themselves meaningless, both in the sense of awarding a conclusion in science, as well as awarding efforts for peace. Kissinger Machado and Obama are examples where Nobel's will regarding peace was squarely ignored. Let's return the favour.

Anateus's avatar

I suggest separating the money from the prize

Han's avatar

Interesting thought. I think however that prize and money coincide. Nobel may have said something about that in his will next to formulating the conditions. He may have been aware of possible controversy surrounding the selection. This is especially true for the peace prize. He trusted, of course, that the respective committees would select in agreement with the explicit conditions. I know for instance that, when a prize is given but afterwards the science was nevertheless wrong, one cannot argue to recall that prize including the money. It is likely that Einstein for that particular reason may not have received the Nobelprize for his work on relativity.

Anateus's avatar

Thank you for this astute response. I am certain that integrity was at a higher level when the conditions were created. In today's context, (1) science demands quantitative research and (2) the subjectivity manipulated as validation for a 'peace prize' is highly questionable. As an independent researcher I suggest the peace prize be suspended for the next 5 to 10 years, until the criteria are redefined through a mixed model methodology, integrating a more quantitative element. Aggredsive state players should not be permitted to nominate candidates. How can a military-industrial entity recommend a 'peace' advocate?

Han's avatar

Thank you. Do you know about the controversy surrounding the physics prize where Alvarez, father and son, were challenged by prof Gerte Keller from Princeton University? The issue was that Keller gave good reasons why the Yucatan astroid impact was likely not the only reason for the extinction of the dinosaurs. She had evidence that the age long volcanic activity in the Decan traps was a bigger contribution to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Her proof was in the foramini fora, that layer after layer got extinct. Gerta Keller who started funding her paleonyology study as a waitress in a truckers café was threatened to be fired. Princeton didn't want to do it just to please the Nobel committee and Alvarez. She went back to the truckers cafe and the boss greeted her... of course when they fire you, you're welcome. Ghee, a professor serving coffee and stake sandwiches... terrific. Princeton didn't fire her. Her work continued aa number volcanonlogists sided with her. The Decan Traps in India was therefore an important aspect in the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Note that Alvarez and Keller both had quantitative data.

Anateus's avatar

I had heard. I am a big fan of the Physics and Chem prizes. But I did not know the depth you've shared. The idea of the challenge and argument is so interesting. This is why I am glad Mr. Asange is challenging the process for this decision. His question is valid and his desire for clarity is warranted.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee is reasonably subject to Norwegian law as it is independent and appointed by the Norwegian Storting. The fact that Julian harbors a grudge against Sweden is not part of this, he can complain about the Norwegians in this matter.
