God, AOC. Can we stop with the cute acronym? Cortez. Just like the other fucking Iberian war lords, AKA genocidiers... Conquistador.

Posers.

I wish I could restack this comment. Great point. I will do this going forward.

Hereโ€™s a question, is Cortez;

A. Extremely uninformed.

B. Informed but naive.

C. Controlled opposition, ie a CIA officer.

Genocide is Evil's avatar

Yes itโ€™s possible sheโ€™s a dope but I gave her the benefit of the doubt.

So D, A radical Commie Black Panther turrorist.

vmosomillo's avatar

No Black Panthers had a brain.

She is just playing her pathetic role to divide and Conquer

Genocide is Evil's avatar

Well clearly sheโ€™s fake.

My previous ABC comment was satirical, maybe a bit lame but with honest intent.

my guess is a combination of all three, especially A and C

IMHO she is just another pawn for the billionaire ruling class. She gets paid to do what the Capitalists want and to lie or spin the truth to distract us in an attempt to have us believe that she works for her constituents and not the ruling class.

Fool us once shame on you. Fool us twice (or in this case at least hundreds of times) shame on us.

D. Better than you so hate her.

For a long time AOC has been a lonely source of light in the growing darkness of the Israeli-American Empire. Has the Republic gone beyond the point of no return? She has appeared to be intelligent and effective in a thankless role but with her recent statements she has dumped a lot of cold water on that rare flicker of light. I hope that somehow she will take a month off to read and meditate and educate herself on US foreign policy and what it has done, and what it is threatening to do to the world. Just reading this excellent article would be a great place to start. With determination, ignorance can be overcome but ambition has been known to make smart people stupid.

I don't think AOC is ignorant, I think she's conscious of exactly what she's doing. That's why it's important to oppose her, because she is a wolf in sheep's clothing. It doesn't matter that she may have been a voice of reason at the beginning of her political career, she now serves power for the sake of her future ambitions and survival. There are very few examples of politicians that have served more than one term in office that opposed their respective political parties.

The other issue is that sheโ€™s a young woman who will be critiqued much more than a man the same age. Thatโ€™s not my opinion, itโ€™s through seeing it play out in real life.

You are insane. She'd piss on your white ass

Dope

SocraticGadfly's avatar

She's self-controlled opposition, and on both Israel-Palestine and Russia-Ukraine has always been so.

Barf me on the laughable idea of AOC running for president. I and other non-duopoly leftists won't be fooled.

Oh, "Fort Bragg Cartel" is the bomb. And, though Harp doesn't report any details, did you know there's a military outfit even more secretive than Delta Force? https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/8271946907

She is a complete dope.

Who's surprised by any of this? As someone said awhile back (Chris Hedges?), AOC, The Squad, Bernie are all 'useful idiots.'

I think Glenn Greenwald covered all of AOC's other screwups that you missed. He did a special on her.

The arguments laid out make sense but to rail against AOC about these issues is ludicrous. First off, she has nothing to do with the abuses of the past and then to project future endeavors onto her as if she made it 100% clear what her policy would be if she ever became President is just a personal smear campaign. Itโ€™s sad that people will write a whole article about a โ€œwhat-ifโ€ and do so expecting the readers to act as if itโ€™s set in stone. Spend your time lambasting the fascists actively creating a hellscape before you inject your personal bias onto someone else. Very disappointed and embarrassed for you with this.

Looking at the nuance of what a politician says is critical analysis. Connecting the dots and understanding the meaning is part of a healthy democracy and journalism culture (which we do not have enough of right now). People need access to this type of analysis. What she is doing and saying now is relevant if she were to run for President. I would look at her record to judge if she is trustworthy or not. In this political situation I wouldnโ€™t rely on newly laid claims stated during a presidential campaign. Republicans may be loud/fast fascism, but we didnโ€™t get to the current hellscape without the complacency and complicity of the democrats. The Democrats use sophisticated methods that are quiet and professional sounding which creates a slower form of fascism.. the kind thatโ€™ll sneak up on ya and get ya boxed in before you ever realize.

The Irishman's avatar

The belief that AOC is secretly wanting to push a fascist ideology is delusional. Maybe itโ€™s from hearing propaganda our whole lives about how bad socialism is from billionaires who hoard not just wealth but the institutions that deliver us knowledge. Itโ€™s important to dive into books instead of the messaging given to us from โ€œjournalistsโ€ whom are more devoted to their overlords than to their oath to be the 4th estate. One example is the importance of the book โ€œCommunist Manifestoโ€ in the USA that spread like wildfire and inspired workers to organize against oppression. Today, our media links it to communism not to the human rights that we deride much of our rights from. Letโ€™s also remind ourselves that as a woman, she wonโ€™t get the โ€œtrust meโ€ pass that can lead a man like Donald Trump to the presidency. Presidents are figureheads who represent societies but they donโ€™t do the work that lead revolutions, regardless, they do take the blame. You can do โ€œwhat-ifโ€™sโ€ as much as you like but to plaster that onto someone without the anti-democracy players that someone like Trump had that were already entrenched into their diabolical plans, is very misleading and an injustice to democracy itself. Find the dark money, the pipelines to injustice, then you have a reason to be suspicious but if โ€œwhat-ifโ€ is your evidence, youโ€™re sorely mistaken.

Fucking Nazi Germany . . . .

The German chancellor also reiterated his pledge to make the German military the โ€œstrongest conventional army in Europeโ€ and to โ€œprotect our free democratic order against internal and external enemies.โ€ Moreover, he announced talks with French President Emmanuel Macron regarding the EUโ€™s own โ€œnuclear deterrence.โ€

Germanyโ€™s current and previous governments have, since Moscow began its โ€œSpecial Military Operationโ€ in Ukraine, been actively giving voice to a narrative alleging a โ€œRussian threatโ€ to justify its increased military spending. German officials have set 2029 as the deadline for the Bundeswehr to be โ€œwar-readyโ€ for a potential conflict with Russia โ€“ something that Moscow has dismissed as โ€œnonsense.โ€

The German People

Yet, the German government is not alone in its almost morbid Russophobia โ€“ its alleged fear of the โ€œRussian Bear.โ€ And like their government leaders, many Germans appear willing to deploy a nontransparent, human-free AI in a military context to โ€œensure their security.โ€

When it comes to trustworthiness, Germans trust AI more than ever before. In 2024, 48 percent reported a high degree of trust in AI. By 2025, this number had increased to 53 percent. Less than half expressed somewhat lower confidence in AI delivering trustworthy responses. Absolutely no trust in AI was expressed by a mere 4 percent in 2025 (up from 2% in 2024).

A recent survey indicates that one in three of the German populace is in favor of greater use of Artificial Intelligence in its society. And this includes a military use โ€” AI-controlled killer bots.

Whatโ€™s more, less than half of the respondents believe humans should make life-and-death decisions on the battlefield, a poll commissioned by Politico suggests.

In other words, roughly one-third of Germans embrace the use of autonomous AI-powered weapons systems in war instead of human decision makers.
